Network project management system (JIRA)

Summary

This is a customizable intranet or internet version of the issue-tracking and project-management application used in English-speaking countries. It is essential for teams with members working at different locations. It makes procedures easy to follow, results in fast and effective communication, and reduces costs. The reporter, assignee, and members of a project are notified of changes. Comments, seen by all project members, promote virtual brainstorming. Priority and due date of a given issue can be changed, and milestones can be set for issues, and then tracked by the application. New members can be allocated to a project, and members can be removed.

Technical overview

The project-management software is a JAVA-based application accessed through a web server. Data are stored in an SQL database; XML import and export are easy. Features (e.g., project components, project lead, types of issues) and users' rights can be set at the web interface. Users need a web browser for full participation.

Users can be grouped and their permission levels easily set. When creating an issue (depending on current permissions) due date and assignee can be set and changed later. Automatic notification about changes can be sent to pre-specified persons or groups. Finding issues with various criteria is supported by an effective search tool. Searches can also be run automatically and results e-mailed to the user initiating the search or to others. Files can be attached to issues and comments, and the web application has its own print- screen function, useful for communication about issues concerning software.
