"The server is based on an open-source, Unix-based system, Linux. Linux is known to be a reliable environment. Competent operators can build a very strong and secure system on it. The kernel running on the server and its services are stable; there are practically no published bugs for them.
The server operator is well-prepared; no sensitive information was given out.
The target server forms a basically secure and stable system, with minimal security gaps. The chance for an external break-in is insignificant. According to our evaluation HNI, our web provider, meets the highest quality standards. "
Ariadnet, the new internet meta search engine has been deployed

A new meta-search engine has been developed and released by HNI. The new service can search within the content of Hungarian and international websites by using simultaneously the most important search engines in an extraordinary way, so everyone can find the information needed in the most precise and efficient way.
A meta-search engine combines searches: it collects and sorts results by relevance for the given word or phrase. HNI provides two parallel solutions: a server-side service and a client- side version for download, which means that users can reach the site at www.ariadnet.hu or can save the client to their own computer.
Interactive functions of Ariadnet make search results even more precise. Searches can be started within titles, URLs, and contents of the pages. Another convenience feature allows a user to define the number of results for a given search engine and set the age limits for the pages displayed. Among Ariadnet's user-friendly features is the etymon-analyzing system, that finds the etymon of a word if it is entered in an inflected way and searches for that as well.
The service is free of charge in both versions. The new Hungarian meta-search engine is the result of a nine-month development period. The project was financed through an application for the Széchenyi Plan framework of the Secretariat of Informatics of the Prime Minister's Office in 2001.
HNI aims to assist again the success of candidates participating in the general elections this spring

Candidates can apply for domain-registration under the special conditions "domain for each candidate!" and HNI is ready to create websites for the candidates for a reduced fee. In response to the great success of our "simple, cheap, comfortable" special for domain name service, the deadline has been extended.
From February 1, 2002 HNI offers a new service to each individual candidate and national list candidate. The company intends to help the candidates with its latest special, titled "Domain for each candidate!" by registering domain names for a reduced fee and by preparing introduction pages for them. Should a candidate wish to have a web page, he or she is entitled for a 40% reduction of the list price. The special offer, titled "simple, cheap, comfortable" domain name service started last October and is also extended through March 31. "This is not the first time that HNI participates in the online communicating issues of the general elections,” said Dr. Tamás Radnai, president and CEO of HNI. "During the 1998 elections HNI mirrored the official results to its server located in New York to enable immediate access to the data from anywhere in the world. With this year's special offer we would like to propagate more candidates' appearance on the internet. We know that there is not much time left for those candidates who did not arrange for their online appearance yet, therefore we are prepared to boost their recognition by fast, quality work," emphasized Dr. Radnai.
The special "Domain for each candidate!" is in effect from February 1, 2002 through March 31, 2002 for new registrations only or for changing providers. The fee for Hungarian domain names (.hu) is HUF 8,900 +VAT and for foreign domains (.com, .net, .org, .biz, etc.) HUF 18,900 +VAT. The fee covers the registration and related services for one year. Should a candidate wish to have a web page as well, there is a 40% discount off the list price before March 31, 2002 .
Those customers who would like to register a domain name with the extended special offer "simple, cheap, comfortable" can pay the same fees: for Hungarian domain names (.hu) it is HUF 8,900 +VAT, for foreign domains (.com, .net, .org, .biz, etc.) the registration fee is HUF 18,900 + VAT. The offer is valid through March 31, 2002 .

Christmas Concert of the 100-member Gipsy Orchestra will be broadcasted on the internet by HNI

On December 26, at 8:15 PM HNI will broadcast the Christmas Concert of the 100-member Gipsy Orchestra on the internet. Real-time broadcast will be possible by the use of Real Video technology. Surfers from any point of the world can connect to the server and watch the concert in excellent quality. The Opera house concert on December 26 is expected to be downloaded by several thousand users.
"Our goal is introduce this special musical experience to the world,” said Dr. Tamás Radnai, president and CEO of HNI. "There were several thousand downloads of last year's concert. On the forum related to the concert, mostly Hungarians living abroad shared their opinion." The concert can be seen live at http://karacsony2001.hungary.com/ or it can be downloaded. It will also be available from the next day through HNI’s broadcast server at http://www.hungarytoday.tv/"

HNI to develop the first Hungarian meta-search engine

HNI's unique idea has won financial support within the framework of the Széchenyi Plan project of the Secretariat for Informatics of the Prime Minister's Office. Once the free, Hungarian meta-search engine is developed, users can search for a given word or group of words in the databases of several internet search engines simultaneously, getting the results ordered by relevance.
"We are about to start a long needed service, since Hungarian websites are currently not searchable with any meta-search engine,” said Dr. Tamás Radnai, president and CEO of HNI. "The new service will be available as a server-side service and also as a client-side application. The client-side version will be downloadable by anyone and the application can be run from the user's own computer. For the server-side version, only a web browser is required. Both versions will be developed in the platform-independent language, Java, used on most operating systems. Qw with Heuréka and HuDir, we will pay special attention to user feedback.” The application will be totally adapted to the special environment of the Hungarian language. A word-terminal indicator and a thesaurus will be implemented in the search engine to make results even more precise. The user friendly, easy-to-personalize complex application can be extended later with further search engines, automatically updating the existing ones. Search engines of other countries can also be included. The software source code and the final search results will be downloadable.

Quality improvement in the search engines, quantity jump in services

From June 30, 2000 the HuDir (www.hudir.hu) catalogue is giving its users a renewed design and new services. Heuréka, the first Hungarian search engine, has also been refined, and one of the oldest Hungarian web-development companies has come up with new services. The opening of Hungary 's biggest online store for foreign language books was also announced on June 30.
HuDir uses a better structured classification system based on content relations; the number of pages listed in the system has been increased; and the search is supported by recommendations.
The design of the popular search engine, Heuréka (www.heureka.hu) is going to change in a few weeks; yet the content has already improved significantly. For example:
- The relevance of pages is better, since modification dates are taken into consideration
- The collecting robot's capacity has been increased
- The services of Heuréka and HuDir are better integrated
Parallel to the renewal of its search engine and catalogue, HNI has also launched new content services, for example, a complaint forum and a page for children. HNI’s biggest e-commerce development, the creation of Propero's foreign language online book store, is outstanding. Maintainer of the store is Prospero Books Budapest Ltd, a renowned foreign book provider for Hungarian libraries. Recently it became Hungary 's leading technical book importer. Prospero is opening its market for the wider public interested in foreign-language books.
The store will open online in July, at the address www.prospero.hu. Users will be able to access 100,000 English publications with detailed descriptions, making it Hungary 's biggest online store. The number of products will increase continuously, and other languages will be included.

To put it simply: HIX is an internet service, and HNI is an internet service provider. The main purpose of HIX is to form the Hungarian internet community, whereas HNI's purpose is to provide international quality information services for Hungarian companies, organizations, and the government.
HNI is the first and only company in Hungary that provides 100 percent internet presence and internet publishing services. It does not provide access to the internet for companies - -although it can offer Internet Access Providers. Rather, HNI is dealing with something much more important: it "puts" the information about a company on the internet and makes it available 24 hours a day.
